Savannah, Georgia, is a fine fall destination. Its cooling temperatures provide the perfect weather for walking the city streets and enjoying the city’s historic architecture, parks and great meals. Savannah earns its nickname as the “Hostess City,” with friendly Southern hospitality, endless fresh food choices and plenty of welcoming lodging options.

Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways are both offering $98 round-trip flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Savannah Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) this fall. Fares for this route are typically close to double the price, so if you’re thinking about a fall trip to Savannah from New York, now is the time to book it.

When booking, take care to notice potential additional fee charges for the flights, particularly with JetBlue’s basic economy rate, which adds $50 if you want to bring a carry-on bag.

Non-stop Delta flights from JFK to Savannah are priced from $98 for a round trip, including a free carry-on bag, but with an additional $60 charge for a checked bag.

This basic economy fare does not allow you to select a seat and will require a change fee if you want to alter your itinerary. Delta’s “Main Cabin” fare adds $60 to the price and allows seat selection and flight changes, but still won’t give you a checked bag.

Tickets at this $98 price are available on Delta from September through early November. Currently, Google Flights shows wide availability for both dates and times of flights. However, these prices exclude peak travel times around Thanksgiving.

JetBlue is also offering $98 round-trip tickets between JFK and Savannah during this timeframe. However, these fares do not include a carry-on bag, seat selection or the ability to freely change the ticket.

JetBlue charges an additional $60 to check a bag on this flight, or $50 for a pre-purchased carry-on package (which would still require you to pay an additional $60 if you wanted to check a bag). The additional $50 lets you select a seat and change the flight time without another fee.

Given JetBlue’s “no carry-on bags” policy for its Blue Basic Fare, if you’re planning to travel with anything beyond a personal item, Delta is the clear price winner for this route.

Pay with The Platinum Card® from American Express for 5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year), the Citi Prestige® Card for 5 points per dollar on airfare, the Citi Premier® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve for 3 points per dollar on air travel, the American Express® Gold Card for 3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card for 2 points per dollar on travel.

Delta flyers should consider the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card or the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card to maximize miles, points and other benefits when flying the airline.

These $98 fares from New York to Savannah on Delta and JetBlue represent a good deal, at nearly 50% off of typical rates for the route. Just be careful when booking JetBlue’s Basic Blue fares, as these tickets do not include the option of bringing a carry-on bag.

Savannah is a great city to visit any time of year, particularly in the fall when cooler temperatures make it more comfortable to explore the city. Book soon to take advantage of these discounted fares and enjoy a visit to Georgia’s “Hostess City.”
