It doesn’t matter what you are beach, pool, or field. There is a universal truth that no one argues with in summer: drinks, the colder the better.

The problem is keeping the drink or fruit fresh in the open air, at 40 degrees centigrade… We resort to refrigerators full of icebut still in a few hours, that ice will have turned into water.

Is there any way to lengthen the duration of the ice, using some tricks? Science tells us yes. And also, in a very simple way.

First of all, pay attention to the ice. Science and logic teach us that, the larger they are, the longer they will take to melt.

If you are going to use ice to put in a portable cooler, or to cool drinks, do not use ice cubes from the classic ice buckets. Better fill bags with water, and freeze them directly. They also serve frozen water bottles

Next we must look at the container where we are going to put the ice and the drinks. Portable coolers are made of insulating material, but still a good trick is line the inside with aluminum foil It helps to reinforce the thermal insulation. The same applies to any other container we use.

Before putting the ice, put the bottom of the container a little water with coarse salt. Upon contact with ice, it produces a reaction that delays thawing.

Put the drinks in the container or refrigerator, and cover everything well. Finally cover everything with wet rags, or a soaked beach towel, to maintain freshness. When the towel dries, re-wet it with fresh water.

And finally, a piece of advice: place the container with the ice in the coolest place possible, and in the shade…

They are simple tricks to put into practice, they don’t cost money, and they really work.
